Just a Few Things / Feb. 1, 2019

Welcome to this week’s edition of "Just a few things," a weekly blog dedicated to sharing a few things I've been doing, thinking, reading or learning throughout the previous week. Many of these things will be inspired by my interactions with you via email or social media... so feel free to drop a comment and share a few things yourself! Let’s get to it:

What’s a new lesson I’ve learned?
I wouldn’t classify this as something “new” I’ve learned this week, however it’s something I was reminded of after a series of events at work. Just roll with it.

It seems the importance of this lesson is reinforced with age and experience... and I’m noticing I roll with the punches a lot easier these days than ever before. Whether it’s unexpected projects at work that take an inordinate amount of time, or not checking that ONE thing off my Combat Flags list for the day, just rolling with it makes it all... easier? I’m not sure if easier is the right word here, but you know where I’m going.

What am I reading?
Ugh, still nothing and it’s KILLING me. Any other recommendations? I added a few of your suggestions from the Jan. 18 edition to my Amazon book list for later on.

What’s one thing that made me scratch my head this week?
For the veterans/military/LEO out there, I read a blog post earlier in the week that unfortunately was not satire. The post was about how to succeed as a small business owner post military and it was full of TERRIBLE advice. In fact, the advice was so bad that I’m considering writing a blog post to counter it. In short, it pushed more of the same that we see on Facebook & Instagram that all starts to blur together because it’s the same thing from 10 different companies.

This also goes back to a book I read in December by Simon Sinek called “Start With Why.” Stay tuned... potentially more to come on this topic later :)

What’s something that happened during the week for Combat Flags that I’m proud of?
I have two for you this week! First, I’m nearly through the uniforms that came in Dec/Jan. They’re all broken down and I have just 4 sets left to cut into my templates for the Originals. I’m hoping to finish this step over the weekend and send the stories off to the printer for production. Second, I finalized designs for new hats this week and they’re moving into production soon. They look SO good and so different from anything I’ve seen. Stay tuned here as well!

What’s one thing that YOU’RE proud of for the week?
Enough about me this week :) I want to hear from you. Leave a comment with one thing that you’re proud of from the week. Share your success with me, please!

That’s it for this week’s Just a Few Things. Thanks for stopping by and checking it out. Like I mentioned earlier, feel free to drop a comment with a few things you’ve been up to!

Also, feel free to checkout a few other BlogOps post to learn more about the history of Combat Flags and our 2018/2019 State of the Union update.

I’ve also got lots of cool stuff up in the store. If you haven’t checked it out in a while, swing by and check out some freedom 🇺🇸

It’s more about being proud of not what I did, yet what I have witnessed. My parents will celebrate 60 years of marriage next week. They met while my Dad was in the Coast Guard stationed in Oregon. They married as soon as they could after mom graduated from high school. To see them still hold hands, kiss each other hello or goodbye, help each other up and agree to disagree is amazing. I am proud to be shown what love and commitment is truly about.

Keep up the work you are doing Combat Flags…..I’ve purchased 4 of your flags and really like each of them. The Army/Air Force flag flies on my Jeep every day. My Jeep flagpole is made by one Army veteran and the flags by another Army veteran. Great combo!!

Hello, Brother just waiting my turn to buy set or two of each service branch. If I could make shadow box or two. One would be for The American Legion Morgan McDermott Post 7 in Tucson Arizona which I’m a member of five years now. They have helped me out a lot there. And the other set would be a gift. Anyways love your work & how do you get new material? Is it donated?hmmm I got brothers that just retired. Wondering if I can submit them for a combat flag. “Just roll with it”…

C.G. Cooper is writing some good fiction. He’s a former Marine and writes from a unique perspective. His characters have depth, the action is plausible, and the cerebral development of the protagonist is written with a military mindset. Certain things that he says through his characters will ring very true in the veteran community.

I’ve been traveling for my adult job / career / corporate gig and haven’t had much time (see the next thing) to place on Combat Flags over the last few weeks. Last week I was in gorgeous San Diego for a conference and this week I’m in snowy, freezing Minneapolis. I’ve got one more round of trips scheduled and then things will be back to normal!
