Welcome to this week’s edition of "Just a few things," a weekly blog dedicated to sharing a few things I've been doing, thinking, reading or learning throughout the week. Many of these things are inspired by my interactions with you via email or social media, so feel free to drop a comment and share a few things yourself! Let’s get to it.

So... are we going to act like missing a few months of "Just a Few Things" never happened, or...?
Yes, it's true, I took a bit of a break from Just a Few Things. Life got absolutely out of hand and my professional career had me traveling quite a bit since February. Balance, albeit it difficult to obtain, called for a few things to take a backseat, including this weekly update. Luckily, things appear (fingers crossed) to be getting back to normal and I'm really excited to start back up again.

I've heard from so many of you via email and comments about the value you find in this each week and I am BEYOND thankful for that. It's fun to share a few things from my week, but it's even better hearing about a few things from your week.

What quote is making me think?
“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.” -Viktor E. Frankl

I'm currently reading Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl and it's one of those books I wish I'd found earlier in life. The book is ultimately Viktor's memoir from his time in a German concentration camp laced with theory around survival and how we as human beings have the grit to face suffering head on and come out stronger

What's up with the work space? It looks like things changed.
Good eye! Things are changing in Combat Flags HQ. More to follow on this VERY soon, but the work space is undergoing a bit of a renovation to make it more, well, workable and pleasant to look at :) I've got a BEAUTIFUL flag from my friend Nick at the Legacy Flag coming to hang front and center over the new surplus government issue desk. Stay tuned for more :)

When will we see the Original Combat Flag make it's return?
Surprise! I've got a few batches of Navy and Air Force Original Combat Flags available in the store now :) I hope to have more from EVERY branch available at some point this weekend, though.

What’s one thing that YOU’RE proud of for the week?
Enough about me this week :) I want to hear from you. Leave a comment with one thing that you’re proud of or, conversely, not too happy with and want to improve on from the week.

I’ve also got lots of cool stuff up in the store. If you haven’t checked it out in a while, swing by and check out some freedom!

I’m proud that God, family & thankfulness for our American freedoms is part of our everyday life.

I am proud to be an American. I am also proud and thankful for all past, present and future military members that have or will fight for my freedom, thank you.

May be a small milestone, but I’m 4 weeks post-op of ligament repair in my knee and I’m progressing a lot fast than I thought I would! Can’t wait to see the new things in store for you!

The bad news is that a few of my established partners have had to close down their production, which means I can’t place new orders for products like the 3x5 foot camo flags. I’m nearly out of the Army/Air Force and Marine Corps flags, and once they’re gone I’m not sure how long it will take to get things back up and running. Another example is that of the Combat Patch. I’ve been working on a slight redesign of the patch and was so EXCITED to have found a local veteran-owned embroidery shop and we had JUST finalized the new patch when NC put in place a mandatory stay at home order.

It's funny... last week I was burning through books and this week I have slowed WAY down. I plan to startOn Killing: The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill in War and Society by Lt. Col. Dave Grossman today and have two more in queue. I'm increasingly interested in this topic and how it connects to the difficulty in transitioning from the military to civilian life.

Just a friendly reminder to remember to keep in contact with your buddies during these uncertain times. Whether it be isolation or anxiety due to the news, make sure they know they aren’t alone. Be a beacon of hope and courage and set the example for those around you. I feel the need to caveat this with the fact that I am not a medical or mental health professional, but isolation can often times exacerbate underlying anxiety or feelings of depression and separation. Give them a call, a text, FaceTime, or Facebook video chat. I don’t really care, just check in and be a good friend and human.
