Welcome to this week’s edition of "Just a few things," a weekly blog dedicated to sharing a few things I've been doing, thinking, reading or learning throughout the week. Many of these things are inspired by my interactions with you via email or social media, so feel free to drop a comment and share a few things yourself! Let’s get to it.
I want to know more about...
Operation Fortitude. Most of you know about Operation Overlord - the codename for the D-Day invasion of Normandy. But how many of you know about Operation Fortitude? Operation Fortitude is often overlooked, but it played a crucial role in splitting the German defenses and moving massive numbers of German troops from the shores of Normandy either inland or toward Calais and Norway. You see, Operation Fortitude holds a special spot in my heart as it’s a textbook example of the strategic impact of Psychological Operations. Using decoy aircraft, landing craft, airborne operations, radio transmissions and even a mock Army Group (The 1st Army Group “led” by Patton), Operation Fortitude deceived the Germans into thinking the invasion location would come in either Calais (the closest point between England and France) or Norway, ultimately stripping the shores of Normandy of scores of German soldiers.
Done anything out of the ordinary lately?
Yep, we sure have! A local movie theater had a limited showing of Saving Private Ryan on Wednesday - Wednesday! We don't typically do "things" during the week, but I mentioned it to the boss (my wife) and she surprised me with tickets to see it. I have to say, it was a tough one to watch. I'm not sure I've seen the movie since either before I went in the Army or since I've been out, but it hit a different note this time around.
Anything new going on with Combat Flags?
Always! Right now I'm working on tearing down a load of uniforms while also figuring out what to do with social media. I have to admit that I'm fairly bored with what I've been doing on Facebook and Instagram as of late. Time has been tight and social has been taking a hit. Actually, I'll ask you :) What do you like to see on Facebook and Instagram? I miss the days when I had lots of good conversation in the comments section on both channels. Need to get back to that.
Now tell me something that happened, was memorable, that you learned, whatever you want, from your week!
This is my favorite part :) Leave a comment with something about your week.
I’ve also got lots of cool stuff up in the store. If you haven’t checked it out in a while, swing by and check out some freedom!
Comments will be approved before showing up.
