Just a few things / Jan. 18, 2019

Welcome to this week’s edition of "Just a few things," a weekly blog dedicated to sharing a few things I've been doing, thinking, reading or learning throughout the previous week. Many of these things will be inspired by my interactions with you via email or social media... so feel free to drop a comment and share a few things yourself! Let’s get to it:

What’s something new I’m watching?
Just two words on this one: Schitt’s Creek. If you like dry humor, this show is for you. It’s a Canadian sitcom produced by Eugene Levy... and its binge worthy. Available on Netflix if you want to check it out!

What’s one purchase that’s had a positive impact on my life?
The Commander and I splurged on Black Friday and snagged a Peloton for a joint Christmas/Anniversary/Birthday present. In all honesty, it’s one of the best purchases we’ve EVER made. It’s a kick ass workout, a load of fun AND brings a good sense of competition back into our lives. Well worth the investment.

What’s one failure from the week that made me better?
Over scheduling. In an attempt to force a routine, I over scheduled from dawn until dusk. Lesson learned.

Conversely, what’s one success that made me better?
Learning to lighten up :) All work and no fun is not an OK equation. I had some fun this week (unexpectedly and unscheduled, of course) and it was refreshing.

What have I been reading?
Nothing :( If you have a book / article recommendation PLEASE leave it in the comments.

That’s it for this week’s Just a Few Things. Thanks for stopping by and checking it out. Like I mentioned earlier, feel free to drop a comment with a few things you’ve been up to!

Also, feel free to checkout a few other BlogOps post to learn more about the history of Combat Flags and our 2018/2019 State of the Union update.

I’ve also got lots of cool stuff up in the store. If you haven’t checked it out in a while, swing by and check out some freedom 🇺🇸

I recently found out about two books via an interview between Glenn Beck and Timothy Ballard (The author of one of the books.) The interview can be found on you tube if you want to know more about these books. The first is called “Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl” by Harriet Jacobs. The other is “Slave Stealers, True Accounts of Slave Rescues Then and Now” by Timothy Ballard. Timothy wanted to bring to light the story of Harriet Jacobs and the story of the Child sex trade still going on today. I was very impressed with the triumph and sacrifice of Harriet that was brought to light by this interview and felt it and Timothy’s battle were important reads. I feel a great deal of gratitude for people who fight noble battles in the shadows.

Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life…And Maybe the World by Admiral William McRaven is a great (though short) book.
It’s based on his viral speech at a collage graduation.

Thank you for your post. I have not wanted to admit it, but your failure for the week is also mine. Since I have stepped out of my current job, die to medical reasons, I have found myself with a load of time. Trying to fill it from “dawn to dusk” has caused sever stress and chaos due to inability to complete all scheduled ops.

This past Christmas I gave one of your MC flags to a buddy to hang in his bar. Yuge hit! Thanx for giving after you’ve already given.

But really, I've got some exciting things in the works for Combat Flags right now. From commissioning an artist I greatly admire to create a host of new logos and artwork to a shift in the Original Combat Flags... lots of good things.

Most of you know about Operation Overlord - the codename for the D-Day invasion of Normandy. But how many of you know about Operation Fortitude? Operation Fortitude is often overlooked, but it played a crucial role in splitting the German defenses and moving massive numbers of German troops from the shores of Normandy either inland or toward Calais and Norway.
